The Main Changes in Latest ISO 22000 released version (ISO 22000:2018)

The Main Changes in ISO 22000:2018 version are:

1. The high level structure: The new standard will follow the same structure as ISO 9001 & ISO 14001. With this new HLS structure, it is much more easier to do the management system integration.
2. Risk Management: Requires organization to determine, consider and, where necessary, take action to address any risks that may impact the management system to deliver its intended results.
3. The PDCA cycle: the standard clarifies the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, by having two separate cycles in the standard working together: one covering the management system and the other, covering the principles of HACCP.
4. The operation process: a clear description is given of the differences between key terms such as: Critical Control Points (CCPs), Operational Prerequisite Programmes (OPRPs) and Prerequisite Programmes (PRPs).

The new version of ISO 22000 standard offers a dynamic control of food safety hazards with the following key elements: interactive communication, systems management, Prerequisite Programmes (PRPs), and the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).

In order to ensure the standards remain as relevant and useful to businesses, therefore every 5 years International Standard Organization (ISO) will review the standard. The committees of ISO 22000 standard is formed from stakeholders who are involved in food safety organizations: governance, consumers, consulting, industry and research, to meet the market needs for food safety.

The ISO 22000 was reviewed and new version ISO 22000:2018 was released on June 2018.

It is a compulsory to convert or upgrade your organization ISO 22000 to latest version. With the new version ISO standard released, the older version ISO 22000:2005 will be cancel and replaced. An organization are given three years time to for the conversion or upgrading. Suppose the organization need to migrate or upgrade your ISO 22000 to 2018 version before June 2021, but due to the Covid-19 ourbreak, the dateline was extended to Dec 2021.
