ISO 22000: 2018 Requirement

1. Certification Scope
This is where you need to define the scope of coverage for your organization. This scope will be written on the certificate once you get ISO 22000 Certification.
The purpose of ISO 22000 (FSMS) is to have a system that can safeguard the food safety and quality of your products and services, hence provides confidence to your clients.
2. Context of the Organization
This clause requires you to determine any external and internal issues that may affect the organization’s operations. It can be positive or negative factors (ie.: legal, technology, market, competitive, cultural, social, and economic environments). Secondly, you need to determine the interested parties and their needs in your organization.
3. Leadership
This clause refers to the commitment of the management team to ISO 22000 system. Management team of the organization need to establish the food safety policy and objectives. The policy needs to consider the continuous improvement and commitment of the management team, While the objectives need to be measurable.
4. Planning
Organizations need to determine the risks and opportunities for the business. After that plan the action to address them. Your action to address the risk can either avoid, prevent or improve it. While for opportunities, your might need to plan for the changes for improvement.
5. Support
This clause is ensuring the organization has considered what is needed (people or infrastructure) to effectively operate the business with FSMS competency skills and experience team. The food safety team/consultant might need to conduct the ISO 22000:2018 awareness training to the team member, to make sure they have the knowledge on the ISO 22000.
6. Operation
This clause is to plan for the operational aspects of the business in order to provide safe products to the market. Here have to include the design and development aspects of operations, as well as delivery of products. It is achieved by determining the control and check procedures necessary to ensure conformity, like prerequisite programmes (PRPs), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) or OPRP plan, hazard control, traceability system, emergency preparedness, and response.
7. Performance and Evaluation
This clause requires to review of all aspects of the business including the operational performance, customer satisfaction levels, and the performance of any suppliers. After you have a plan and execution, it’s time to review and evaluate the plan and the result. This can be evaluated by conducting ISO 22000 internal audit. This audit compulsory to do at least once a year. In order to do that, management needs to appoint an internal audit team to cross-check other team’s departments.
8. Improvement
This clause is referred to the correction required for improvement purposes, plan what is needed to do for correction, implement and monitor for effectiveness. If found ineffectiveness, then, you need to excuse the corrective action to improve the situation.
