What is ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System?
ISO 22000 Certification is a standard or requirement for Food Safety Management System (FSMS). It maps out what an organization needs to do to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe. The potential benefits to an organization of implementing ISO 22000 Certification are:
- Ability to consistently provide safe foods and products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements;
- Addressing risks associated with its objectives;
- Ability to demonstrate conformity to specified FSMS requirements.
ISO has recently revised the ISO 22000 version. The latest version is ISO 22000:2018.
Other than ISO 22000, there are another few types of food safety system which widely implemented in the food industry, which is GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) & HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point). The GMP is the basic requirement regarding the food industry’s environment setup and good hygiene practices. While in HACCP requirement, other than the food industry’s environment setup and good hygiene practices are important, the other important part is hazard analysis critical control point system.

Who is ISO 22000 Standard for?
ISO 22000 is applicable to all organizations in the food and feed industries, regardless of size or sector.
It is designed to follow the same High-Level Structure (HLS) as other ISO management system standards which enable integration into an organization’s existing management processes.
As a result, ISO 22000 Certificate is extensively used around the world, particularly in Malaysia, South East Asia, Europe, and the United States.
HACCP & GMP also part of the element and requirements in ISO 22000.
