8 Common Mistakes When Implementing ISO 9001
Implementing an ISO 9001 Quality Management System is an excellent way to improve an organization’s daily operation from a more qualitative perspective. However, some common mistakes will happen during implementation and maintenance.
Below here are the 8 common mistakes when implementing ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Mistake 1 : The organization leaves the responsibility of the quality management systems to 1 person. The quality management system is involved in the entire operation process of the organization. Therefore, the involvement should be everyone in the organization.
Mistake 2 : Organization rushing into the implementation process. Due to some reason, some organizations rushing to implement ISO 9001 in a very short time frame. This may cause problems where the system is not fully implemented in the organization.
Mistake 3 : The organization making the ISO 9001 quality management system complicated. They think of developing a very detailed process for the organization and sometimes the organization model and structure are not ready to practice such a complicated process.
Mistake 4 : Employees are not completely trained. Some management teams might think the ISO 9001 is only for the management team not everyone in the organization.
Mistake 5 : Does not have a trained internal auditor. Some organizations engage a service from a consultant to help them on the internal audit however train own team also can benefit which internal team might have more insight and idea of what the problem is happening in the organization and can give better suggestions for improvement.
Mistake 6 : Too dependent on an ISO consultant. This could have happened when the internal team was not competent in implementing the ISO 9001.
Mistake 7 : Lack of commitment to the ISO 9001 implementation. Some organizations might be thinking of implementing ISO 9001 just seek to get the certificate but they don’t maintain it after that. this could cause the certificate to be suspended.
Mistake 8 : Does not utilize the corrective action process. The corrective action process is a very good process that can help the organization to have an improvement procedure. many organizations do not utilize the process due to worry that the non-conformity might affect the organization’s ISO 9001 certification.
